COMMON COMPOUNDS OF CANNABIS EXPLAINED

CBD

CBD (cannabidiol) is a natural compound found in the cannabis plant. It is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not produce the “high” associated with marijuana use. CBD is believed to have a range of therapeutic benefits, including pain relief, reducing inflammation, and anxiety relief. It is commonly used in the form of oils, edibles, and topicals, and is legal in many countries.

THC

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is a psychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant. It is responsible for the “high” or euphoric feeling associated with marijuana use. THC binds to cannabinoid receptors in the brain and body, altering the user's perception, mood, and behavior. It is commonly used for recreational purposes, but also has medical benefits such as pain relief and nausea reduction. THC is illegal in many countries and can be detected in drug tests.

  • THC-9 (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is the main psychoactive component of the cannabis plant. It is responsible for the majority of the “high” experienced when using marijuana.
  • THC-8 (delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol) is a minor cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. It is similar in structure to THC-9, but produces less potent psychoactive effects. THC-8 is found in small amounts in some strains of cannabis and can be derived from CBD.
  • THC-10 (delta-10-tetrahydrocannabinol) is a minor cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. It is structurally similar to THC-9 and produces similar psychoactive effects, but is present in much smaller amounts. THC-10 has been found in some strains of cannabis, but its effects are not well understood. There is currently limited research on THC-10, and it is not as well-known as other cannabinoids like THC-9 and CBD.
  • THC-P (tetrahydrocannabiphorol) is a relatively new and rare cannabinoid that has been discovered in some cannabis strains. It is similar in structure to THC, but it has an additional ring, which gives it a unique profile. It is believed to be more potent than THC-9. It appears to attach to CB1 receptors in the brain at 33 times the rate of Delta 9. It offers more powerful effects compared to the other cannabinoids.
  • THC-A (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in raw cannabis plants. It is the acidic form of THC-9 and must be heated or decarboxylated to convert it into THC-9. It is commonly consumed through raw cannabis juice or added to smoothies or other foods.
  • THC-O (tetrahydrocannabinol-o-acetate) is a synthetic form of THC that is believed to be more potent than natural THC-9. It is created by adding an acetyl group to THC-9, which changes its molecular structure and enhances its psychoactive effects. THC-O is not found in the cannabis plant naturally and must be synthesized in a laboratory. It has been reported to have strong psychoactive effects and a longer-lasting high than traditional THC-9. However, its effects are not well understood, and there is limited research on its safety and effectiveness.

HHC

HHC (hexahydrocannabinol) is a cannabinoid that is structurally similar to THC, but has a slightly different molecular structure. It is found in some cannabis strains, but is present in smaller amounts than other cannabinoids like THC and CBD. HHC is believed to have psychoactive effects similar to THC, but it is not as potent.
